It Starts at Home

It Starts at Home

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6

So often times, it seems that we get our priorities out of whack when it comes to our families. I get it! Common Core Math, the fact that spelling no longer counts, the endless history questions (especially when they ask if we were there) are all sometimes difficult for parents to handle. We feel that we have put our trust in the teachers at school to teach these kids these things, and now they are at home asking us how to do it! As frustrating as it may be, it is important for us to understand that our family's well being, education, and growth is simply our responsibility. Proverbs teaches us the importance of putting our families on the right path. So many try to put the education of their families on the schools, the welfare of their families on the government, and the spiritual education and well being of the family on the church's shoulders. Frankly, that is not their job! They may help, but let us never forget that it is OUR jobs to make sure that our families are raised and reared properly. It may be tough work for now, but it will pay off when you see your family serving God in the decades to come! Train them up... you won't regret it!
