Love Letters in the Sand
"And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst." - John 8:8-9
In this passage, Jesus is approached by the scribes and Pharisees with a woman who they said was caught in adultery. On first glance at this story, it is odd that they only brought the woman and did not bring the man. Under the law, both should have been condemned to die. No matter the circumstances surrounding this, I find it amazing that just by writing in the sand, Jesus had the accusers so convicted of their sin that they began to walk away one by one.
Our moral from this story is that Jesus is the great equalizer when it comes to sin. To be clear, Jesus doesn't condone sin, but when He forgives of sin, it is forgiven indeed! We need not look on others who have a troubled past and think that we are better than them. By having this thought, we are likely worse off than they are at the present! Let's try to see others through the eyes of Jesus and love those who've sinned if they are bringing their sins to the cross!
